REVIEW: Dabur Gulabari Fairness Face Pack

Dabur Gulabari Fairness Face Pack with Saffron & Turmeric for soft skin & rose glow

Dabur Gulabari Fairness Face Pack is a product of Dabur which is a leading Indian company producing Ayurvedic herbal products.

Dabur's Gulabari is a well known Rose Water product which is famous for its cleansing and glow imparting powers. It is recommended for use by itself or by mixing it in face packs, most commonly with Multani Mitti.

Dabur Gulabari Fairness Face Pack is a ready to use Multani Mitti and Gulabari based face pack. It claims instant fairness and glowing skin based on an efficacy study conducted by an independent institute.

The key ingredients are:
Glycerin
Turmeric
Sandalwood oil
Rose Oil
Saffron
Licorice

All the ingredients are powerful and well known skin lightening agents. The benefits of each of these on the skin are as follows.

Glycerin - Glycerin is a sugar alcohol product and is well known for its skin lightening and softening properties, especially when used in combination with rose water. As a humectant, it helps attract and retain water in the skin, keeping it well moisturized and thus delays the onset of wrinkles.

Turmeric - No Indian ritual is complete without turmeric, especially weddings. It is known not only for its culinary and medicinal value, but also for its benefits for the skin. While the turmeric spice that is used in cooking does give a yellow stain on the skin, Kasturi Turmeric (wild turmeric) does not and is used extensively in beauty rituals. It is known to lighten skin tone, erase scars, and smooth fine lines and most importantly reduce acne and inflammation due to its anti-bacterial properties.

Sandalwood oil and Rose oil - The benefits of these two oils have been described in detail here.

Saffron - The queen of spices, Saffron, is the most expensive spice in the world. Kashmir Saffron is especially a potent skin lightening and brightening ingredient. Just a few strands of saffron mixed in a glass of warm milk and consumed during pregnancy is believed to even lighten the skin tone of the unborn baby in a mother's womb.

Licorice - Licorice is another Ayurvedic herb that is used in skin brightening concoctions. In Hindi it is known as Mulethi. It also fights acne and fades acne scars, making the skin even toned.

Coming to the product, it looks like a clay mask although it does not mention Multani Mitti as its base or key ingredient anywhere. Anyone who has used Multani Mitti before can vouch that it is indeed the base of this mask. Unlike other multani mitti based packs, this one is refreshingly creamier and softer and a bit runny as well. The consistency is just like a freshly ground sandalwood paste. Even the color closely resembles that of sandalwood paste. It spreads easily with even a little product. It smells predominantly of Gulabari (rose water). It did dry slower that one would expect, probably due to the creamy consistency due to the presence of the oils and glycerin. Even after rinsing off the product, it did not leave the skin dry and taut but soft and smooth. Skin felt refreshed and looked glowy, but not fairness as per the product's claim. As experienced with all clay masks, this one too makes the skin tight and shrinks pores.

As it is a ready to use product with all the ingredients that one would typically use in their face packs, it is definitely recommended to the busy girls on the go for use in the evenings after a long, hard day as a cool and refreshing mask for the skin. It is gentle on the skin and may be used up to twice a week.

The shelf life is 1.5 years from the date of manufacture and it also comes in a travel friendly size of 15 g priced economically at INR 18.
